Exam Pattern

The SSC CGL Exam consists of four stages: Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, and Tier 4.

Tier 1 and Tier 2 are online exams, while Tier 3 is a descriptive exam and Tier 4 is a skill test/computer proficiency test/document verification. The Tier 1 exam consists of four sections: General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. Each section consists of 25 questions, with a total of 100 questions, and the duration of the exam is 60 minutes. Tier 2 exam consists of four papers: Quantitative Abilities, English Language and Comprehension, Statistics, and General Studies. Tier 3 exam is a descriptive paper that tests the writing skills of the candidates. The duration of the Tier 3 exam is 60 minutes. The Tier 4 exam is a skill test/computer proficiency test/document verification.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the SSC CGL exam, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or institute. The age limit for the exam is 18-32 years, although there are some age relaxations for candidates belonging to certain categories.


The syllabus for the SSC CGL exam is vast and covers a wide range of topics. The General Intelligence and Reasoning section includes topics such as Analogy, Classification, Coding and Decoding, Puzzle, etc. The General Awareness section includes topics such as History, Geography, Polity, Economics, Current Affairs, etc. The Quantitative Aptitude section includes topics such as Number System, Simplification, Ratio and Proportion, Percentage, etc. The English Comprehension section includes topics such as Error Spotting, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms and Antonyms, etc.
